The Program

  1. Program has a predictable but flexible daily schedule that encourages purposeful play and shows that the majority of the day is child-directed.
  2. Schedule shows a balance of active and quiet activities.
  3. The program schedules time to interact with children in small groups or individually.
  4. Transition activities are used to facilitate smooth changes between activities.
  5. Strategies are used to support children's social and emotional development.
  6. Caregivers are trained on the use of positive guidance strategies and the developmental reasons for their use.
  7. Caregivers post program rules in a child friendly manner.
  8. Activities that support children's large motor development are provided daily.

  10. The program offers daily opportunities to explore math and science concepts.
  11. Children's language and literacy development is encouraged through daily activities.
  12. The children participate in creative activities each day.
  13. Caregivers sit with and interact with children during meals and snacks.
  14. Program supports those children who need a rest time as well as those children who do not.
  15. Program has a plan in place to accommodate children with special needs who may wish to enroll.
  16. The program has 10 books and/or professional articles on child development and early care and education that address all of the age groups served.
  17. Program uses a formal research-based screening tool at least twice a year to help create individual development goals.
  18. Information gathered through ongoing observations and interactions is used to identify strengths and interests of children and to plan and implement activities.
